Survivor Tree

This poem can be explained in my blog written 4/20. 31 years ago a man exploded a bomb.

In Oklahoma City, there is a special old tree,
It is a proud symbol of resilience, for all to see.
This 100 year old American elm survived a blast,
When the Murrah Federal building fell 31 years in the past.

The damage was great as the people verified
Broken limbs, fire and more, the bark couldn't hide.
And yet with care and love it still will bloom and seed
To show it is a survivor, whose life one can't impede.

For each spring the living tree begins to bloom
Seeds and saplings are selected to be a planted heirloom.
People come to see this survivor who means much to all
From the disaster in Oklahoma City, it now stands strong and tall.
